Thousands of homes, shops and offices have been left without power after a major fire in the northern Leeds area destroyed an electricity sub-station.
The sub-station in Guisley, where the incident happened, was gutted and Yorkshire Power engineers have been replacing the cabling and switching customers to other power circuits where possible. Street lighting around the fire area has been given priority as the blaze has yet to be brought fully under control.
A spokesman said: "We decided to remove power to 20,400 customers after the fire on the advice of the local fire brigade. We hope customers understand why we had to do that and the electricity should be restored within the next twenty minutes."
